I will be showcasing a work-in-progress related to mehendi (henna) at Toynbee Hall for their heritage day event, If Henna Could Speak on Saturday 3rd of December. After the event I will upload pictures of the pieces with a little information about them here.

Henna has been an integral part of my life since I was a child. Recently a friend of mine commented how they associate henna only with weddings, and outside of weddings it bears very little relevance. I found this rather interesting as it was the opposite for me, applying henna was a very casual and regular occurrence for me. Growing up in a Muslim Bengali Family mehendi was used for any celebratory occasion: weddings, Eid, Birthdays or during smaller cultural occasions. This project primarily explores the concept of hands as a tool.
